It took me 4 weeks to finish this book, not because it wasn’t good - it was deeply brilliant. But, her brilliance, at first, was too much for me. Though, I kept reading. This is a novel of story - of my story, of your story, of your father’s story - of someone you loved or of Someone Who Isn’t Me (who is actually me). It is about how writers/humans find or lose creativity in sobriety & recovery - it is about what it looks like to be addicted, to be different, and to be the same.It is the story of the obsession - the deep desire to escape; the facts that we/you can’t have just one.That maybe moderation never works once you are past the point of no return.This is a book about happiness, depression, overcoming, & resilience.It is very smart, intelligent writing by a woman who must find simplicity & ease in her own life, in a way she pushes back against because maybe this is not for her/me.This book is the beauty of recovery.It made me cry.Highlight.Remember.Smile.Laugh.This is the community aspect of how people come together over a shared experience & are never, ever the same.And that togetherness - in its misery & regret - brings empathy & humility & perhaps, a million reasons to breathe.It’s tiny miracles.Brilliant book.
